Seeing Things As They Truly Are
I have used distorted thinking throughout my life in various ways. As a child, I had to use distortions to survive. In addiction I used distortions to maintain my disease.
Distortions About Love
My distorted thinking made me feel accepted, as if I belonged. I felt I was strong, needed, and nobody could hurt me.
Fixing Cognitive Distortions
There are many cognitive distortions that I used throughout my addiction such as jumping to conclusions, labeling, blaming others. exerting control, mind-reading, or magnifying things. All of these examples have taken a toll on me spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. Coming back into recovery has helped me begin to learn a more positive way of thinking.
