The Choice To Stay Positive

Staying positive sounds easy enough, right? But what happens when everything seems to be going wrong? You start your morning off headed to work then you get a flat tire. Now you’re late to work and get yelled at by your boss. At this moment you have a choice to be negative or positive. Let’s say you choose negativity, from this point on your coworker is playing music that you don’t care for and because of your negativity you snap causing an argument On your way home your negativity builds up along with your frustrations and you start speeding and get pulled over and get a ticket. You then get home with all that negativity and your significant other asks you to take the dog out and you start yelling at her and walk out the door. You call your friend complaining about everything that happened and you don’t get the response you are looking for. Not feeling validated, you decide to go to the bar and drink and complain to the people there. Intoxicated you go home and get in a fight with your partner and end up sleeping on the couch. Wow, that’s a rough day! But what would have happened if you had just stayed positive throughout your day? Would you have yelled at your co-worker then sped home to get a ticket? Would you have started the fight at home? Would you have gotten drunk and slept on the couch? Chances are, probably not. My point being that positivity can have a huge impact on the outcome of how things turn out in our lives. You had no control over the events that morning, but you had a choice to be negative or positive about it. I struggle with this every day, but I’m learning that if I stay aware of it, I can choose to stay positive.
