My Life Preserver

My journey through life has been a rough ; one filled with neglect, abuse, drugs and alcohol. Ever since I was 15 years old, I’ve done whatever it takes to be numb to it all. Life was just too painful to feel it all. I did all I knew how to do just to survive. Eventually, I forgot to slow down and live life. My life had become an endless cycle of hurt that brought me to use and drink even more. At first, I did it to just take a break from life and to feel happy. It came to a point where that didn’t even work. I was lost and scared. I was drowning and couldn’t even begin to know which way was up. Swimming through a sea of pain and anger, slowly suffocating while gasping for each breath. Going in and out of courts and jail, losing all whom I cared about. I felt as if each breath could be my last when a life preserver was thrown to me. All I had to do was reach and grab it. It wouldn’t be easy, but I could do it. South Orange County Detox and Treatment was that life preserver for me. It’s not always easy, but that day my journey changed directions for the better. Now I can live my life, not just survive it.
