Working on Resentments in Addiction Treatment

Resentment is the feeling of hate or bitterness towards something or someone who may have wronged you. In recovery, the key offender is harboring resentments. This is why the 12-steps are important to work and practice on a daily basis.  Holding onto resentments can be harmful, and can even be fatal for a drug addict in recovery. This is why it’s important to work on ourselves and be of service to others rather than focusing on what others my or may not be doing. However, I am not perfect, and working on my resentments is still a big part of my recovery.  In the past I’ve let one resentment build up to become many resentments which has led me to relapse.  It’s most important that I process these feelings to continue to move forward with a healthy perspective.
